Road crews continue making progress

Roads continue to improve in western Kentucky, but motorists are urged to continue using extra caution—especially on back roads and side streets.

Christian, Todd, Trigg, Hopkins, Cadlwell, Muhlenberg, Montgomery and Stewart County Schools will remain closed Thursday, in addition to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School, Heritage Christian Academy and all campuses of Murray State University. University Heights Academy will open one hour late.

City, county and state road crews have continued to plow and salt—though the salt becomes less effective during the overnight and early morning hours with bitterly cold temperatures in the single-digits.

Interstates and Parkways are mostly clear, though motorists should look out for black ice—especially on the ramps.

There is hope for significant melting on the way, as Friday’s forecast high temperature is 41 and it could reach the mid-50’s by Sunday.

Numerous churches have also canceled Wednesday night services and you can find a complete list of our closings and cancellations here.
