Nortonville man accused of making up robbery story

A Nortonville man has been arrested for allegedly making up a robbery story.

Madisonville Police were called to A Plus Auto Sales on North Main Street Thursday morning after 53-year old Michael Latham of Nortonville called dispatch to say the store had been robbed and then hung up.

When police arrived, a news release says Latham appeared startled and said someone had broken into the business during the night. He showed officers where the offender had made entry and all the places they went.

After more discussions with Latham and other employees, police determined his story did not add up. Latham eventually admitted he took the money from the business the previous night and left it in a different place.

He was arrested and charged with felony theft, falsely reporting an incident and tampering with evidence.
