Human Rights Commission to host Black history trivia events

To celebrate Black History Month and test the community’s knowledge the Hopkinsville Christian County Human Rights Commission is hosting trivia events. Commission Executive Director, Raychel Farmer says they are preparing for the 33rd annual Black History Trivia Bowl at Hopkinsville Community College on February 15. Human Rights Commission set to highlight regional slavery Emancipation celebration

Though the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, slaves in Western Kentucky were not freed until nearly eight months later a day now recognized as an emancipation holiday for the region.
