University Heights Academy needed five sets but defeated host Todd County Central 3-2 Wednesday night in a high school volleyball match.
The Lady Blazers dropped two of their first three sets 17-25, 25-21, 23-25. However, UHA rallied to take a hard-fought 25-20 win in the fourth set and then pulled away for a 15-6 win in the deciding set.
Junior Niyona Brown had 10 kills, three blocks and an ace and freshman Lily Kem had seven kills and five digs to lead the Lady Blazers (1-1). Bailee Chesnut had 27 assists, two aces, two kills, a block, and six digs.
Ava Crawford also had a big night with eight kills, 11 digs, and three aces. Cassidy Keller had 22 digs, four assists, three aces, and two kills.
The Lady Blazers will face Todd County Central, Ohio County, and Caldwell County in pool play on Saturday at the Smackdown tournament hosted by Christian County High School.
