Owen, Croney-Sallie cap big days for UHA Middle School track team

If the results from last Saturday’s KTCCCA Indoor State Meet are any indication, the University Heights Academy track program has a bright future.

The UHA Middle School track team was represented by several athletes on Saturday at the University of Louisville’s Norton Center..

Fifth-grader Adi Owen earned state titles in the 11-12-year-old division in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash. She set new personal records with times of 8.25 seconds and 29.91 seconds, respectively.

Meanwhile, eighth-grader Ronan Croney-Sallie took third place in a personal-best long jump of 17-feet, 7.5 inches.

Croney-Sallie also was part of the 4×400-meter relay team that took fourth and included Hayden Hayes, Lucas Stine, and Scar Venable.

UHA’s boys’ team finished 13^th out of 30 teams in the event.

Croney-Sallie also took sixth place in the 400-meter (57.5) and had a new PR top-10 finish in the 200-meter (25.2).

Venable brought home a PR in the 60-meter dash as did Hayes, Trent Simmons, Caleb Bowling, and Callen Bowe.

Simmons and Bowe also had impressive showings in the shot put, scoring two personal bests with Simmons having a toss of 23 feet and Bowe had a toss of 31-feet, 4-inches.

Hayes capped the day with a PR in the 200-meter at 29.19.

Other Lady Blazers with impressive performances included Amoree Owen, who had a new personal bests and top-20 finishes in the 60-meter (12^th, 8.72 seconds), 400-meter (9^th, 1:07.15), and 200-meter (18^th, 29.82). She also led the 4×400-meter relay team that included Emma Calhoun, Emma Flynn, and Morgan Strader to a seventh-place finish.

Flynn delivered personal-best times in the 60-meter, 800-meter (2:53), and 200-meter (31.2). Calhoun also had PR’s in the 60-meter and 400-meter (1:12).

Strader ran a PR time in the 60-meters and Molly Cavinder finished with PRs in the 60-meters, open 400-meter, and the 800-meter run.

“We finished the day with more than 20 personal records, two state championships, a third-place finish, a scoring relay, and multiple top-10 finishes by the young Blazer tracksters,” UHA track coach Carter Hendricks said. “The future is bright and so is the present.”
