>>Cardinals Visit Mariners

(Seattle, WA)  —  The Cardinals begin a ten-game road trip with a contest against the Mariners tonight in Seattle.  The Cardinals lost their most recent series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but they won the final game of the series 14-5.  St. Louis is in fourth-place in the NL Central at 8-and-11.  Steven Matz mans the rubber in the first game of the weekend series tonight.

>>Reds Fall To Pirates In Opener

(Pittsburgh, PA)  —  The Reds fell to the Pirates 4-3 in their series opener from Pittsburgh.  Luke Weaver got the loss after surrendering all four runs over six innings.  Jonathan India went three-for-four with an RBI for Cincinnati, which dropped to 7-and-12.  Cincy is still last in the NL Central.  Game Two of the four-game set takes place tonight.  Graham Ashcraft gets the ball while the Pirates counter with Mitch Keller.

>>MLB Suspends Mets’ Max Scherzer For 10 Games

(New York, NY)  —  Major League Baseball is suspending Mets pitcher Max Scherzer for 10 games after he was found with a foreign substance on his hand during a game.  The league announced the suspension on Thursday after Scherzer was ejected from Wednesday’s win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth inning.  The right-hander claimed he was only using rosin and will begin the suspension immediately.  Scherzer was inspected three times by umpire Phil Cuzzi, who found that even after the pitcher washed his hands, the glove and hands remained noticeably sticky.

(Undated)  —  The Redbirds, Bats and Sounds each earned victories on the diamond.  Memphis shut down Indianapolis in a 6-1 win at AutoZone Park.  The Redbirds improved to 13-and-5.  Louisville used a three-run first inning to beat Charlotte 6-2.  The Bats are now 6-and-11.  Nashville plated three runs in the top of the ninth inning to secure a 3-1, comeback victory over Jacksonville.  The Sounds are 9-and-9 on the season.  All three teams continue their series tonight.
