>>Cubs Interested In Veteran Arm

(Mesa, AZ)  — The Cubs could add a veteran arm to their bullpen.  Chicago was one of the teams that attended free agent reliever Zack Britton’s throwing session in Florida.  Ken Rosenthal reports the Cubs, Giants, Angels, Mets, Dodgers and Rangers were all in attendance.  Britton is coming off Tommy John Surgery.  The team already signed bullpen arm Michael Fulmer to a one-year deal earlier in the week.  Manager David Ross hinted at a “closer-by-committee” approach to start the season.

>>Reds Plan for Stephenson

(Goodyear, AZ)  — The Reds are planning to use one of their players in several positions across the diamond.  Manager David Bell spoke to reporters from spring training yesterday and said Tyler Stephenson will get about 60-to-70 games behind the plate this season and split time between first base and designated hitter.

>>Tim McCarver Dead At 81

(Cooperstown, NY)  — Former baseball player and broadcaster Tim McCarver is dead at the age of 81.  He played 21 seasons in the majors and won two World Series titles with the St. Louis Cardinals.  McCarver played for the Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox. The catcher was a two-time MLB All-Star and retired from the game in 1980.  He would go on to serve as the lead analyst for 23 World Series broadcasts.
