Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says there are concerning trends in the COVID-19 data that they are keeping an eye on as we move into the winter months.
Governor Beshear says it appears the state has plateaued for new COVID cases, reporting 1,561 new cases Saturday, along with 45 deaths, then 747 new cases Sunday and 11 deaths, and then 726 cases for Monday. He says last week was higher for new cases than the weeks before, but that does follow prior plateauing trends.
He says there are still far too many individuals in the hospital and the Delta variant is still the predominate version of the virus in the Commonwealth, but we have the tools to combat it, such as vaccinations.
Governor Beshear says Europe appears to be seeing increases in COVID cases once again and they’re watching that very closely to see if the U.S. could experience the same.
The governor says an audit continues on the deaths related to COVID-19 that occurred in 2020, and he believes its close to be completed and they’ll be able to make sure those numbers are accurate—he doesn’t believe it will change much for the death toll overall.
He once again encouraged everyone who can to get vaccinated, and if you’re eligible for it, to get a booster shot as soon as possible to help keep yourself from getting seriously sick from COVID-19.
