WKYT-Lexington reported Frjday Kentucky football redshirt defensive end Cavon Butler has placed his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal. Butler played in one game last season with the Toledo, OH native recording a tackle against UT Martin.
College Basketball
WKYT-Lexington reported yesterday four star post player Frank Anselem has narrowed his list of schools to five. Making the final five for the Suwanee. GA native are Kentucky and Western Kentucky. Anselem is a 2020 prospect.
MLB
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a radio interview Friday that he’s spoken with Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred about the possibility of the sport getting back on the field sometime this summer. McConnell said he’s hopeful that
baseball would be able to begin an abbreviated season around the Fourth of July, and also said he believes there will be a college football season this fall.
Auto Racing
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway may become the first major sports venue in the U.S. to host an event with fans in the stands. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced yesterday a five-stage plan to reopen the state with the final phase tentatively scheduled to include a return to sporting venues on July 4, in time for Brickyard weekend, an Indy Car-NASCAR Xfinity Series doubleheader. Earlier this week NASCAR announced it would resume racing May 17 without fans.
Soccer
Major League Soccer will begin allowing players to participate in individual workouts outdoors next Wednesday. MLS suspended the season because of the coronavirus pandemic on March 12, closing all team facilities but asking players to remain close to their teams. The league-wide moratorium on group and team training remains in effect through May 15.
Horse Racing
The first virtual Kentucky Derby takes place today at Churchill Downs. The race features the 13 Triple Crown winners with 1973 Secretariat the favorite. The “real” Derby will be run Labor Day weekend after its postponement due to the pandemic.
