Public library may be closed, but director says reading options open

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is closed to the public for the time being in response to COVID-19, but Director Deanna Sova says people can still get their reading fix.

She says if you have a library card, you have always had access to the Overdrive or Libby apps that let you read books digitally—but now you no longer need one to access those archives.

Sova says people can access all types of media on those apps, which are free to download, and while in the past it would have denied access due to late fees, those will be waived.

She says if you have a book out that was due by March 18—you now have an extension on that book and no late fees will be applied.  The drop box is still open for returns that way, but Sova says don’t let worries about late fees get you out.

The library is currently working with a skeleton crew so Sova says they will try to be present to answer the phones if you have questions, but they can’t make any guarantees to availability at this time. She thanked everyone for their patience and understanding and says she eagerly looks forward to getting back to business as usual at the library when things become safe to do so.
