Several pedestrians injured, two people flown following crash on East 12th Street

Multiple pedestrians were injured in a two-vehicle collision on East 12th Street early Tuesday morning, and two people were flown to a Nashville hospital.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Emmanuel Lopez of Hopkinsville turned eastbound onto East 12th Street and struck a parked car head-on. The collision launched the parked vehicle into a group of a pedestrians that were standing nearby.  Witnesses at the scene told officers that the vehicle operated by Lopez accelerated prior to hitting the parked car.

Lopez was flown to Skyline Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash.  One of the pedestrians, Nyjana Kembrough, was also flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for injuries to the head and hand.

Three other pedestrians were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The report states Lopez may have allegedly passed out due to an unknown intoxicant, causing the crash and charges are possible.
