David Weber steps down as Hopkinsville’s baseball head coach, assistant coach Malcom Tipler to be the interim head coach.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (May 22, 2023). Hopkinsville High School Athletic Director Blake Leach, has
announced David Weber has stepped down from his position as head coach of the Tiger baseball team.
Coach Weber led the Tigers for two seasons. The resignation comes after Coach Weber announced he is
pursuing a coaching opportunity closer to his childhood home.
“Thank you Hopkinsville High School from the bottom of my heart. You all will be deeply missed,” said
HHS Coach David Weber. “My time here was made special by many different student-athletes, parents,
staff, and administration. Special thank you to Blake Leach for entrusting me with the program for two
years. I know Hopkinsville High School will hire the right person for the job moving forward.”
“We are very appreciative of the impact and influence Coach Weber has had on our HHS BB program
and its players as well as our entire HHS student body,” said HHS Principal Cindy Campbell. “We wish
him and his family all the best and know that his future will be bright and successful.”
Upon the announcement, Hopkinsville High School Principal Cindy Campbell named Malcolm Tipler as
the interim HHS Baseball Coach. Tipler is a 2016 Chester County High School graduate and a 2021 Austin
Peay State University graduate where he played for the Governors as a five-year starter. Tipler joined the
HHS staff as an assistant coach last year.
“First I want to thank God for this opportunity because without him nothing is possible,” said Malcolm
Tipler. “I would like to thank my family. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I also want to give
a big thank you to Coach Weber. He played a tremendous part in helping me grow as a player while I
was at Austin Peay and as a coach. I learned so much from him. I am extremely grateful to him. I am
beyond excited to become Head Baseball Coach at Hopkinsville High School. It was my dream to
become a head coach and now I am about to live that dream.”
“We are also very excited to name Coach Tipler as the interim HHS Baseball Head Coach,” said
Campbell. “Coach Tipler has shown his abilities and talents as a current HHS baseball assistant coach
and his willingness to step in immediately and continue the progress of HHS BB makes this a smooth
transition for our program and student/athletes.”
