State Senator Whitney Westerfield of Crofton has been appointed to serve as co-chair to the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Executive Committee, one of eight national committees dealing with both state and state-federal issues.
A news release says NCSL standing committees are comprised of legislators and legislative staff who are appointed by the leadership of their respective legislatures. The committees explore issues facing the states and develop policy on state-federal issues to guide NCSL’s advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. Committees do not recommend policy to the legislatures on issues that are internal to the states.
Westerfield says, “I believe in NCSL’s mission and am humbled and excited to come on board as co-chair overseeing the work of the standing committees. The work we do today will have a long-lasting impact on our nation and its citizens. I hope I can make thoughtful contributions to the policies they set and I heartily and gratefully accept the appointment.”
The NCSL Executive Committee meets four times a year to oversee the development and implementation of NCSL policies.
