(San Diego, CA)  — The Cardinals avoided a sweep in San Diego with a 5-4 comeback win over the Padres.  Brendan Donovan drilled a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning for St. Louis, which snapped a three-game skid.  Lars Nootbaar also went deep in the victory.  Jack Flaherty gave up three runs, two earned, in six innings for his first win.  Giovanny Gallegos posted his 14th save.  The 88-and-63 Cardinals remain seven-and-a-half games ahead of the Brewers in the NL Central.  Jose Quintana starts for St. Louis against the Dodgers tonight.

Chicago Cubs 3, Pittsburgh Pirates 2

(Pittsburgh, PA)  — Hayden Wesneski had an immaculate inning as the Cubs beat the Pirates 3-2 at PNC Park.  Wesneski struck out the side on nine pitches in the bottom of the fifth, and he earned his second win after giving up just two runs in six-and-a-third innings.  Christopher Morel drove in a pair of runs in the victory, and Mark Leiter Jr. picked up his third save.  The Cubs improve to 65-and-85, and they send Javier Assad to the mound against Pittsburgh tonight.

Milwaukee Brewers 5, Cincinnati Reds 1

(Cincinnati, OH)  — Milwaukee took down the Reds 5-1 after an impressive offensive performance by one of their infielders.  Second basemen Kolten Wong crushed three home runs and had five R-B-I in the game.  Brandon Woodruff also performed well and got the win after pitching six innings while giving up one run on three hits and striking out 11.  Kyle Farmer hit a home run for the Reds, who will try and bounce back tonight as they continue to host the Brewers.

Philadelphia Phillies 1, Atlanta Braves 0

(Philadelphia, PA)  — The Braves failed to score as they fell 1-0 to the Phillies in Philadelphia.  Atlanta had six hits in the loss.  Max Fried gave up just one run over five innings but took the loss.  The Braves are 93-and-57 and a game-and-a-half back of the Mets for first in the N.L. East.
