>>Reds Lose Both Games In Double Header To Pirates

(Cincinnati, OH)  — The Reds are coming away empty handed after they lost both games of a double-header to the Pirates.  The team dropped game one 6-1 after Ke’Bryan Hayes, Bryan Reynolds and Cal Mitchell all homered for the Pirates.  Cincy lost game two 1-0 as Stuart Fairchild got the team’s only hit and a Kevin Newman R-B-I single was the deciding factor in the Pirates second victory of the day.  The Reds have lost five in-a-row and will look to avoid the sweep this afternoon.

(Flushing, NY)  — Ian Happ homered off Jacob deGrom as the Cubs took down the Mets 4-1 in Flushing.  Happ launched a solo shot in the second inning and David Bote also went deep.  Adrian Sampson earned his second win on the mound after throwing six scoreless frames.  Chicago combined to hold New York to just four hits.  The Cubs improved to 60-and-82.  Drew Smyly starts for Chicago against the Mets tonight.

Milwaukee Brewers 8, St. Louis Cardinals 4

>>Cardinals Fall To Brewers

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cardinals dropped the first game of their series with the Brewers 8-4 at Busch Stadium.  Jordan Montgomery was charged with his fourth loss after giving up four earned runs and two unearned runs in five innings of work.  Nolan Arenado drove in a pair of runs in the losing effort.  The Cardinals are now just seven games ahead of Milwaukee in the NL Central race with an 83-and-59 record.  Adam Wainwright takes the hill for St. Louis against the Brewers tonight.

Brewers designated hitter Andrew McCutchen says he isn’t focused on the standings.

Atlanta Braves 5, San Francisco Giants 1

>>Braves Take Down Giants

(San Francisco, CA)  — Dansby Swanson homered as the Braves took down the Giants 5-1 in San Francisco.  Kyle Wright gave up just one run over five and a third innings to earn the win.  Atlanta improves to 88-and-54.  The Braves are a half game back of the Mets for first in the NL East.

Braves manager Brian Snitker says he’s still trying to get his team playoff ready and credits Kyle Wright for a strong pitching performance.

Braves pitcher Kyle Wright says he wouldn’t be an 18 game winner if he didn’t have the support of his teammates on offense and the bullpen.
