CCPS postpones consolidating high school athletics, extra-curriculars

The Christian County Public School System will be holding off on planned ‘farewell year’ for the athletic teams and extra-curricular organizations, as the process for the consolidated high school has been delayed.

According to a news release, the decisions to combine those areas of the school was set to take place at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, but Superintendent Chris Bentzel has made the decision to postpone the anticipated combining of Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High School athletics and extra-curriculars until construction of the new high school begins.

Once construction bids are successfully in place, possibly in the spring of 2023, the plan is to have the ‘farewell year’ during the 2023-24 school year, and the consolidation of the programs will begin in the 2024-25 school year.

Superintendent Bentzel says, “My desire is for Christian County Schools to be the very best educational option for families in western Kentucky.  We have phenomenal students.  We have phenomenal teachers, leaders, and staff in our buildings. I also know we have a phenomenal community that is eager to be involved in the plans for CCPS. It is my goal that we all can work together, unite Christian County, and soon provide our community with a new high school facility that we can all be proud of.”
