MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 1/21/22

NHL

The Nashville Predators scored three first-period goals in their 5-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Eeli Tolvanen, Mikael Granlund and Ryan Johansen scored in the first period with Luke Kunin and Tanner Jeannot also scoring for the Preds. Nashville goalie Juuse Saros had another good night with 36 saves. The Predators improve to 25-14-and-3 and host the Detroit Red Wings tomorrow night.

NBA
Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies are in Denver tonight to face the Nuggets. The Grizzlies have lost two of their last three games.

MLB
Major League Baseball and the Players Association are setting up another meeting amid the league’s current lockout. ESPN reports the sides are set to meet on Monday in an effort to come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement. This follows the MLB and MLBPA meeting on January 13th, but failing to come to a resolution.
The union reportedly will present a counter proposal to the league’s first offer. The MLB has been shut down since owners locked out players on December 2nd.

Golf

Patrick Cantlay and Lee Hodges are tied for the lead at the PGA Tour’s American Express after round one. Cantlay and Hodges each shot a 62 to finish 10 under par. Two players are tied for third place after shooting 64, with K.H. Lee and Cameron Young are both eight under par. Eight players are tied for fifth place after shooting a 65. Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker is among those at seven under par.
