Man charged with felony theft by deception

A Hopkinsville man is facing charges of felony theft after he allegedly deposited multiple fraudulent at a local bank.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, 63-year-old Darryl Hawkins of Hopkinsville is alleged to have deposited three checks for approximately $5,500 each from a fraudulent bank account into an account at a different bank.  Investigation revealed the checks were tied to a bank account belonging to a different account holder, and Hawkins was reportedly able to withdraw the funds before being caught by the bank.

He later attempted to deposit and withdraw another check worth $8,500, but was stopped by the bank.

Hawkins was arrested and charged with three counts of theft by deception.
