MLB

ESPN reports sources as indicating Major League Baseball will bring the 2023 All Star Game, Home Run Derby and other activities to T Mobile Park in Seattle. It will be the first time Seattle has hosted the Mid-Summer Classic since 2001.

The team nominees for the Roberto Clemente Award were announced today. Nominees include the Cincinnati Reds Joey Votto, the Atlanta Braves Will Smith, the Chicago Cubs Jason Heyward and the St. Louis Cardinals Paul Goldschmidt. The Clemente Award is presented to the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

PGA Tour

Patrick Cantlay was named the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year today. Cantlay was a four time winner on the PGA Tour this season including the Tour Championship. He recorded seven top 10 finishes this season. The Fed Ex Cup champion earned $7.6 million this year.

Soccer

The Athletic reports soccer legend Pele has been hospitalized since August 31st and had surgery to remove a tumor from his colon. According to his daughter, the 80-year-old Pele will be moved from intensive care in the next few days. He has dealt with health issues over the last several years. The three-time World Cup winner is Brazil’s all-time leading goal scorer with 77 goals to his name. He also played for the New York Cosmos in the latter stages of his career.
