JSMC has 30 COVID positive patients, 150 new cases since Thursday in Christian County

COVID-19 continues to spread across the region, taxing the healthcare system and causing healthcare employees to work long hours.

Amanda Sweeney-Brunt with the Christian County Health Department appeared on WHOP Tuesday morning and says there have been 150 new cases of COVID-19 since Thursday in Christian County and there were 766 active cases.

Jennie Stuart Health Spokesman Chris Jung says the hospital had 30 COVID positive patients admitted, six were in the ICU and almost all of those 30 patients are unvaccinated.

He’s urging everyone who’s eligible to get vaccinated, mask when you can’t socially distance and don’t go to the emergency room unless there’s an actual emergency to be addressed.

There’s been a lot of discussion of hospital capacity and Jung reminds that capacity is determined by staffing available to treat the patients they have and not necessarily the number of open beds.

Jung assured the community that Jennie Stuart stands ready to treat anyone who walks through the doors needing care, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.
