HHS football coach opposes consolidation of two high schools

Hopkinsville High School Head Football Coach Craig Clayton has made it known he does not support consolidation of the two high schools.

Appearing Wednesday morning on WHOP, Clayton said he believes smaller schools better serve students.

He notes many kids will lose opportunities to participate in athletics with varsity roster slots being cut in half and that may lead to problems in other areas of their lives.

Clayton hopes people who think like him will attend Monday night’s forum at the Christian County Middle School Performing Arts Center, where supporters and detractors of the project can have their voice heard.

If you can’t attend that forum, there will be another August 2 at Crofton Elementary School and August 12 at South Christian Elementary—with each to begin at 6 p.m.

The decision on whether to consolidate will ultimately be up to the five members of the Christian County School Board and that vote is expected in August or September.

Clayton is the winningest football coach in Hopkinsville High School history and has coached 23 season over two stints.
