UHA baseball loses while softball wins Friday

Baseball: University Heights had a 7-6 lead after three innings Friday but lost to Hancock County 17-7 in 6 innings after the home team scored 11 times in the fifth and sixth innings. Luke Welch had two of the Blazers four hits, with the others coming from Eston Glover and Joe Stone. Glover was also the losing pitcher for UHA now 5-7 on the season. The Blazers face Franklin Simpson Saturday at the Kelly Russell Classic at Russellville.

Softball: Jaila Batey was clutch at the plate with ducks on the pond, driving in four on three hits to lead University Heights past Christian Fellowship 19-16 at Lady Blazer Field Friday. Batey drove in runs on a triple in the first, a single in the second, and a triple in the third in going 3-3, but Regan Pollard went 4-5 with two triples. Mallory Ladd was the winning pitcher as the Lady Blazers improved to 2-2 and meet Fort Campbell Monday.
