Trigg County Sheriff Jason Barnes has notified Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander that he is resigning at the end of August.

Kentucky State Police has been conducting an investigation into possible criminal misconduct among members of the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department, but has not released any further details since a statement in June.

Judge Alexander says he will be appointing someone to fulfill the remainder of Barnes’ term in the near future.

Barnes defeated former sheriff Ray Burnham in the 2018 election.
