CCHD gives update on COVID-19 pandemic locally

The Christian County Health Department gave an update on COVID-19 locally Tuesday and announced seven new confirmed cases.

That would put the overall total in Christian County at 431—150 are considered ‘active, 277 people have recovered from the virus and there have been four COVID-19 fatalities.  Since the pandemic began there have been 67 cases in the youth category, 289 in the young adult to middle aged grouping, 69 in the older adult group and seven in the elderly age group.

There are currently three COVID-19 positive patients hospitalized at Jennie Stuart.

Between the Christian County Health Department and Jennie Stuart Health, 9,815 tests have been performed locally—officials say testing has increase significantly recently, with the department doing an average of 186 tests per day. Once again, the county has seen its largest spike yet in COVID-19 cases with an increase of 87 cases during the week of July 12.

The department attributes the increase in positive cases to those traveling to hot spot areas for vacation and possibly Fourth of July celebrations. People are encouraged to wear a mask when in public, social distancing when possible and frequently and thoroughly wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time.
