Comer won’t challenge Bevin in GOP primary

Congressman James Comer has made it official that he will not challenge Governor Matt Bevin in the Republican primary.

In a statement issued Sunday night, Comer says he’s told everyone who’s asked him that he has ‘zero desire to run against a multi-millionaire incumbent governor in a primary regardless of how unpopular he was.’

Comer does go on to say he expects Bevin to be reelected.

He says it breaks his heart to see Kentucky so divided and believes the pension systems can be fixed and that the tax code can be modified with strong leadership and transparency.

Congressman Comer says Kentucky deserves better than a Governor who ‘belittles anyone who disagrees with him, who has not set foot in many of our desperate rural communities, who has zero accessibility to most of Kentucky’s elected officials and who has spent more time traveling outside of Kentucky than getting to experience the uniqueness and greatness of Kentucky and its people.’

Comer says he will remain in Washington, D.C. for now and represent western Kentucky in the U.S. House.

Bevin is currently challenged by Representative Robert Goforth in the Republican primary.
