Be alert for buses, children as new school year begins

As public schools in Christian County open for the new year Thursday, students are urged to come ready to learn and motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution.

Christian County School System Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says the district has prepared for a successful year, but students have to do their part to make it happen.

It has been a few months since school buses have been on the roads and Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says give yourself some extra time to make your morning commute.

Law enforcement agencies often place an extra emphasis on patrolling school zones during the first few days of the school year to ensure motorists are complying with the decreased speed limit.
