Woman indicted for murder in connection with Logan Co. crash

The Tennessee woman charged with murder and DUI in connection with a fatal wreck Memorial Day weekend on US 68 in Logan County has been indicted by a grand jury.

Forty-eight year old Margie Johnson of Springfield is facing one count of murder, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, aggravated DUI, driving with a suspended license, tampering with a witness, falsely reporting an incident, disregarding a stop sign and failure to maintain insurance.

The incident happened Saturday, May 26th and the Logan County Sheriff’s Department says Johnson was traveling west on Stevenson Mill Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at US 68.

She struck a minivan driven by 80-year old Carl Hodges of Auburn, sending it into a guard rail and ejecting Hodges from the vehicle.

Hodges was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Johnson was treated at Vanderbilt and was arrested six days after the crash upon her release from the hospital.

She remains in the Logan County Jail.
