Hoppers open post season with win over Madisonville

The Hoptown Hoppers opened Ohio Valley League West Division playoff action with a 4-1 win over the Madisonville Miners last night at Colonel Field.
The Hoppers plated a run in the bottom of the first inning on a single by Nick Proto that brought home MJ Rookard. Proto would single again in the third and bring home Cole Cummings with the second run of the night. Cummings would add a two run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the game.

Brian Coffey pitched 7 1/3 innings of no run six hit ball to get the pitching win. Coffey struck out six and walked three batters in improving to 6-1 on the season. Hassan Westbrook got his fourth save of the season.

The Hoppers are now 22-20 while the Miners dropped to 14-26. Game two of the series is scheduled for this evening at Elmer Kelly Stadium in Madisonville at 7, with pregame at 6:45 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.
