A traffic stop for expired plates on North Main Street Wednesday night resulted in the arrest of the driver for trafficking in marijuana and opiates.
Officer Tim Merrick stopped 33-year old Charlie Fields of Hopkinsville at North Main and the Bypass about 7:15 p.m. and an arrest citation says he was visibly nervous and had a hard time focusing.
A K9 alerted on his pickup and a search allegedly revealed 11 Percocet pills in a plastic container, 4 Xanax pills and a piece of an unknown pill. There was also about 16 ounces of marijuana and digital scales.
Fields was arrested and charged with trafficking in opiates, trafficking in marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, having expired tags and driving without insurance.
