Cadiz man arrested for armed home invasion

A Cadiz man was arrested for an alleged armed home invasion in Hopkinsville Sunday night.

A Hopkinsville Police arrest citation for 19-year old Austin Michael Gardner of Cadiz alleges that he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s home on Velma Drive while armed with a shotgun and then assaulted the victim.

The police report says the victim sustained what appeared to be minor injuries. Police say children in the home witnessed the assault.

Officers arrived at the home and found Gardner to be in possession of the handgun and he smelled of marijuana.

He denied having marijuana on his person, but a marijuana cigar was found smashed in the floorboard of the Hopkinsville Police cruiser he was detained inside.

Gardner was charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault, possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence.
