The Cincinnati Reds spoiled Daniel Poncedeleon’s terrific debut with a 2-1 walk-off win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park. Poncedeleon tossed seven no-hit innings 14 months after dealing with a serious head injury. Bud Norris gave up a solo homer to Eugenio Suarez that tied the game and Dilson Herrera drove in the game winner with a single in the bottom of the ninth. The teams play again this evening.
Elsewhere in the National League: Jeff Mathis’ two-run double capped a five-run first inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks cruised past the Chicago Cubs 7-1 at Wrigley Field. The teams play again tonight.
Charlie Culberson had four hits and three RBI as the Atlanta Braves clobbered the Miami Marlins 12-1 in Miami. Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson homered for Atlanta. The teams meet again this afternoon.
