The first Hopkinsville City Council meeting of the new year was held Tuesday evening, where council members heard the monthly financial report and approved an ordinance concerning public comments on second reading.
It was the first financial report that some members had heard as sitting council-members, so Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin was sure to explain all the ins and outs. He says property tax collections came in very well during November, and he fully expects them to exceed their projected collections in December’s report.
Martin says they carried roughly $2 million forward in their capital budget due to supply chain issues in purchasing and getting vehicles delivered—but those vehicles are starting to come in slowly.
Council approved an ordinance on second-reading that makes changes to the language concerning public comments—participants will now have a three-minute time limit for their comments, and they are limited to speaking once per meeting. The presiding officer would reserve the right to have a speaker removed, should they fail to comply or become vulgar or unruly.
