State representative candidate talks hopes, priorities

After filing to run as a Democratic State Representative for Kentucky’s ninth district, Twyla Dillard talked about what led to her filing for candidacy and the impact she wants to have on Kentuckians.

Dillard is a native Kentuckian, originally from Trigg County and has lived in Christian County for over 30 years. Dillard is a small business owner, a financial insurance representative and works as a human resources assistant.

Dillard is political newcomer, but she has filed to run for Hopkinsville City Council in the past which she did not win. However, Dillard says she filed for state representative because she still wants to be able to work to improve the quality of life for Kentuckians and help her community grow.

To improve the lives of Kentuckians, Dillard says she would like to make home ownership and renting more affordable, ensure accessible education for all students and focus on affordable health insurance as well.

Though she has her stances regarding prevalent matters, Dillard says she is looking forward to talking with residents of Christian County to find out what changes they want to see in the community.

Dillard is going toe-to-toe with Republican Myron Dossett who has been the District Nine Representative since 2007. Dillard says she would like to bring new leadership to the district and make a change.

Kentucky’s District Nine Seat is responsible for representing parts of Christian County such as Pembroke, Oak Grove and parts of Crofton. Dillard’s name will be on the ballot for Kentucky’s General Election in November.
