The New Year’s holiday is upon us, as New Year’s Eve is Sunday night and when you gather to celebrate as the ball drops, the Christian County Sheriff’s Department is urging motorists to stay safe.
Public Information Officer Chris Miller says the statistics show the vehicular accident, including those that are fatal, increase during the New Year weekend, and they don’t want any family to go into the new year with tragedy on their hands. He says if you’re going to a party this weekend and intend to do any drinking of alcohol, make sure you have a designated driver or a place to stay put if you do.
He says they will have focused patrols out over the weekend in an effort to keep impaired drivers off the roadway and make sure everyone makes it home safe.
In Kentucky, 479 impaired driving-related crashes, resulting in 201 injuries and 16 deaths, occurred during the Christmas and New Year holidays over the last five years.
