(Chicago, IL)  — The Cubs earned a 9-3 home win over the Reds at Wrigley.  Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki each went deep in the victory.  Hayden Wesneski made his MLB debut and earned his first career win after tossing five scoreless innings out of the bullpen.  Chicago improves to 57-and-78, and Javier Assad takes the rubber for the club against Cincinnati tonight.  In other team news, catcher Willson Contreras was placed on the ten-day injured list yesterday, while Justin Steele was put on the 15-day IL.

Cubs pitcher Wade Miley says he’s happy to return to the mound.

>>Reds Bullpen Struggles In 9-3 Loss To Cubs

(Chicago, IL)  — Cincinnati’s bullpen struggles in their 9-3 loss to the Cubs.  Seiya Suzuki crushed a three-run homer while Christopher Morel and Nick Madrigal each drove in two runs.  Chicago scored six runs over the final three innings to secure the victory.  Kyle Farmer hit a homer for the Reds who look to bounce back tonight as the series continues in Chicago.

Reds pitcher Justin Dunn says his location was just a shade off.

St. Louis Cardinals 4, Washington Nationals 1

(St. Louis, MO)  — Jose Quintana tossed five innings of one-run ball as the Cardinals defeated the Nationals 4-1 at Busch Stadium.  Quintana earned his fifth win on the mound after allowing just five hits and striking out five.  Nolan Gorman and Brendan Donovan each homered for St. Louis, which improved to 80-and-56.  Ryan Helsley locked down his 14th save of the season for the Cardinals, who lead the NL Central by eight-and-a-half games.  Jordan Montgomery starts for St. Louis against Washington tonight.

Cardinals third baseman Brendan Donovan says the team’s streak of 38 straight games without back-to-back losses is a testament to its success.

Cardinals second baseman Nolan Gorman says the acquisitions of pitchers Jose Quintana and Jordan Montgomery have really given the team a boost.

(Oakland, CA)  — Austin Riley hit a go-ahead sac fly in the sixth as the Braves edged the Athletics 10-9 in Oakland.  Jesse Chavez picked up the win while Kenley Jansen earned the save.  Atlanta is 85-and-51.  The Braves are tied for first in the NL East with the Mets.

Braves manager Brian Snitker says that there’s nothing like playing meaningful baseball.

Braves first baseman Matt Olson says that Atlanta’s current goal is to win the division.

>>Matz Makes Rehab Start

(Springfield, MO)  — Steven Matz is trying to work his way back to the Cardinals pitching staff.  Matz pitched at Double-A Springfield yesterday, and he struck out three batters over one-and-a-third hitless innings.  Matz is still recovering from an MCL tear in his left knee.  He suffered the injury on July 23rd.  St. Louis is expected to place Matz in the bullpen once he finishes his rehab assignment.
