Cardinals win, Braves lose to Mets

>>Cardinals Beat Phillies To Split Series

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Albert Pujols reached another career milestone as the Cardinals beat the Phillies 6-1 in at Busch Stadium.  Pujols smacked a double in the bottom of the seventh inning for his 1,378th extra-base hit, which now ranks third all-time in MLB history.  Corey Dickerson and Lars Nootbaar each chipped in with home runs for St. Louis, and Miles Mikolas got the win after allowing one run over seven-and-a-third frames.  The Cardinals now trail Milwaukee by just two games for first place in the NL Central with a record of 47-and-42.  St. Louis sends Matthew Liberatore to the mound to begin a home series against the Dodgers tonight.

>>Pujols Declares For Derby

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Albert Pujols is deciding to make one more appearance in the Home Run Derby.  The Cardinals slugger confirmed yesterday that he will be participating in Monday’s Derby for the fifth time in his career.  Pujols was named to the National League All-Star team as a legacy selection over the weekend.  He last participated in the Derby in 2015, but he’s never won the event.

>>Braves Fall To Mets

(Cumberland, GA)  —  Max Scherzer allowed just one run over seven innings and struck out nine to lead the Mets past the Braves 4-1 in Cumberland.  Austin Riley homered for the Braves.  Max Fried allowed two runs over five innings to take the loss for Atlanta.  The Braves are 52-and-36.

>>MLB’s Longest Active Consecutive Games Streak Ends

(Kansas City, MO)  —  Major League Baseball’s longest active consecutive games streak is over.  Whit Merrifield of the Kansas City Royals had played 553 games in a row dating back to late June of 2018.  However, a foot injury on Sunday eventually led to him having to end his streak on Monday.  Merrifield described himself as “proud” of the run he was on.
