A traffic stop at East Fourth and South Clay Street Saturday evening led to the arrest of the driver for felony charges.
Hopkinsville Police Officer Josh Stallons stopped a 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage about 5:20 p.m. that he recognized as having been reported stolen earlier in the weekend from a South Virginia Street location.
The keys had to the rental car had been left on a nightstand in the home and the victim told police that 52-year old Ronald Young of Hopkinsville had taken the keys and car while visiting a family member.
A computer check showed Young’s license were suspended and the arrest citation says he attempted to hide a bag of crack cocaine in the back seat of the police cruiser on the way to the jail.
He was charged with felony receiving stolen property, possession of cocaine, tampering with evidence and driving on a suspended license.
