Hopkinsville High School’s Band of Tigers placed sixth in the state in recent competition, which marked the first time that marching bands from both local schools advanced to state.
Band Director Grant Jones described the return to the competitive season—after an extended pause due to the pandemic—a great return to normal, and it made their successes all season that much sweeter.
He says the scoring system that determines placement is very exact, with the differences between first, second and third place often coming down to even tenths of a point.
Jones commended his students for dedication and many, many hours of a hard work, memorization of music, formations, narrative and more that resulted in a great season.
Although the marching season has ended, students will stay busy all year round, with the start of concert band, state competitions in that category, public performances and more. Both Hopkinsville and Christian County High School’s band—which placed fourth overall—were also awarded Distinguished ratings for their performances at Kroger Field Saturday.
