After the victim in the case didn’t show up for court on the first two trial dates, a new trial was scheduled Wednesday morning for the Cadiz man accused of shooting Darrell Bateman on East Second Street in February of 2020.
Bateman was recently arrested on a contempt of court charge for not appearing for the September 20 trial date and told Judge John Atkins he didn’t know about the trial and that’s why he didn’t show up.
The alleged shooter, 39-year old Travis Mayes, also appeared in court and Judge Atkins scheduled his new trial date for February 28 of next year.
Mayes is charged with first-degree assault.
