HS FOOTBALL

Union County was scheduled to play Webster County tomorrow night before COVID canceled the game. The Braves were not able to find a replacement for the Trojans and will have an open date this week.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

It’s a matchup of Atlantic Coast Conference teams this evening as Virginia visits Miami. Both teams are 2-2 on the season.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

The NCAA’s Division One Men’s and Women’s Basketball committees are discussing the possibility of combining the Men’s and Women’s Final Fours. While no decision has been made on this, the earliest the two could be played in the same city is 2027. The 2022 Men’s Final Four will be played in New Orleans and the Women’s Final Four will be in Indianapolis.

With uncertainty about if AJ Brown or Julio Jones will play wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans against the New York Jets Sunday, Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has taken the “next man up” mentality. During a news conference Wednesday, Tannehill said he’s confident in whomever will play Sunday.

The New York Giants announced today former 2020 first round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans-Isaiah Wilson-has been signed to their practice squad. The offensive tackle was released by the Titans after several off-field issues last year.

MLB

Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas has purchased the controlling interest in Go the Distance Baseball LLC, which owns the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersburg, Iowa. A news release indicates Thomas will be the CEO, while former Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Dan Evans will serve as COO. The first MLB game in Iowa was played at Field of Dreams in August and the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs are scheduled to play there next August.

GOLF

Louisville area native Justin Thomas will have a new caddie when he plays again on the PGA Tour. Golf Channel announced today the sixth ranked golfer in the world will have veteran Jim “Bones” McKay on the bag. McKay has worked the last four years as a reporter for Golf Channel and NBC and will continue those duties as Thomas’ schedule allows. McKay also worked 25 years for Phil Mickelson until 2017. McKay has done some fill in caddie work for Thomas over the last several years.
