Austin Peay’s basketball teams open their seasons today. The Lady Governors are at North Alabama while the Governors meet Omaha in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, FL.
Louisville also opens play today meeting Evansville in its opening game of the Wade Houston Classic.
Louisville’s women also open their season this afternoon at Southeast Missouri, a last minute replacement for Middle Tennessee who had to cancel due to Covid-19 issues.
The Tennessee Volunteers will not be taking the basketball court anytime soon. Tennessee has pulled out of the Jimmy V Classic next week after a COVID-19 outbreak, which includes a positive test result for head coach Rick Barnes. The number-14 Volunteers canceled games this week against Charlotte and VCU in the Volunteer Classic and a December 4th game at Notre Dame. Tennessee is now scheduled to open its season on December 12th against Cincinnati. All team activities are paused until December 5th if the Vols experience no further obstacles.
25th ranked Alabama opens its season tonight against Jacksonville State. Two Hopkinsville natives will be coaching in the game as Tommy Wade is an assistant at Jacksonville State and Donovan Kates is an assistant at Alabama.
