People were ready and waiting in their cars at 10 a.m. Friday morning for the opening of Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel.
A ribbon cutting was held just before the opening, where representatives from local government, Churchill Downs and Keeneland, and the community celebrated the awaited opening. General Manager Darold Londo says they were pleasantly surprised at the amount of people eager to get inside, but they’ll be maintaining COVID-19 guidelines to keep everyone safe.
Oak Grove Mayor Theresa Jarvis says this development has already been beneficial for the community and it will only continue to be.
Christian County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kelli Pendleton says even if you aren’t into gaming, there are plenty of restaurants to enjoy and with more to come.
The gaming floor is home to 1,300 historical racing machines and the facility contains four restaurants—Garrison Oak Steakhouse, Lucky Lime Tex Mex and SGT. Peppers Po’Boys and Burgers and O’Dark Thirty Coffee House. The hotel is set to open on October 9 and then the return of live harness racing will happen on October 14. Construction of the outdoor amphitheater and the indoor equestrian center is still underway.
