Austin Peay’s Adams wins OVC Freshman of the Week award again

photo credit: Austin Peay athletics For the third straight week and seventh time this season, Austin Peay’s Jordyn Adams was named the Ohio Valley Conference basketball Freshman of the Week. Adams averaged 15 points in wins over Eastern Illinois and SIU-Edwardsville. The Governors return to action Thursday night at Tennessee State.

Kentucky Derby to have new starting gate for 2020 race

The Kentucky Derby will start differently when it takes place May 2nd at Churchill Downs. Churchill Downs will have a custom made 20 stall starting gate made by Steriline Racing of Australia instead of an older model which had an extension for over 14 horses in the field. The new gate will be used for just the Derby only.

Fire damages mobile home on Dawson Springs Road

Fire damaged a mobile home on Dawson Springs Road in Christian County Monday morning. According to Westside Volunteer Fire Department Captain Terry Cansler, no one was in the residence at 3540 Dawson Springs Road when the fire occurred. House bill would reform public assistance in multiple ways

There is legislation in the state House this session aimed at getting people off public assistance and into the workforce. House Bill 1 is the Republican majority’s top priority for 2020 and is a product of findings by a legislative task force. TVA’s Paradise Unit 3 coal power plant ceases operations

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s last operating coal-fired unit at Paradise Fossil Plant in Muhlenberg County has officially ceased operations, ending more than 50 years of providing electricity to the region.
