The Christian County School Board began the long process into finding a new superintendent at Thursday’s meeting, as they approved the selection of a consultant for the process.
After some discussion, including the idea of handling the process independently without a consultant, the board decided to take on the Kentucky Association of School Administrators to provide a consultant. The contract will cost around $7,000, but the consultant will handle the process of creating a screening committee, how to post the position and more, according Director of Finance Jessica Darnell.
She says after the consultant is on board, they’ll begin the selection committee process to look at applications.
The process is a long one, often taking months to hire a new superintendent, but board member Tom Bell says the board intends to make sure the person chosen is a good fit for the district financially, educationally and who has the best interest of students in mind. Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill recently announced her retirement, and she steps down at the end of the school year.
