A Cadiz woman is facing a second-degree cruelty to animals charge after a dog was found in bad condition while in her care.
According to a citation from the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department, animal control responded to Landfill Road for reports of an injured dog last Friday. Contact was made with a dog that reportedly had open, bloody wounds and very irritated skin while being underweight.
The owner of the dog, 30-year old Kayla Joiner of Cadiz, reportedly told officers she had tried to get treatment but had been unable to provide the medical care the dog needed.
The animal was surrendered to Trigg County Animal Control, and taken to the Christian County Animal Shelter, where it was euthanized due to the severity of its condition.
Joiner was cited into court and charged with second-degree cruelty to animals.
