Monday is Lineworker Appreciation Day—a day set aside to recognize those who venture out in adverse conditions to turn the lights back on for the rest of us.
Kentucky’s electric cooperatives have also designated all of April as Lineworker Appreciation Month and Brent Gilkey with Pennyrile Electric says it’s an occasion to show appreciation to those individuals.
He notes that Pennyrile and other cooperatives send lineworkers to other locations in the region after ice storms, tornadoes and other severe weather to assist during large power outages.
Pennyrile Electric lineworkers are responsible for keeping over 5,000 miles of line across nine counties. They encourage citizens to show their gratitude on social media through the month of April by using #thankalineworker.
