Pennington announces for Congress at meet and greet

The community got a chance to meet the Democratic candidates running for different offices in Christian County Thursday, including a surprise announcement from another contender for U.S. Congress in the First District.

Local musician and Princeton native Alonzo Pennington told the crowd he intends to run for Congress as a Democrat, saying he would work hard to end the opioid epidemic and bring more money to the area.

He says there needs to be someone in Washington D.C. who cares about the working class person and will fight for what is needed to improve people’s lives.

Pennington will face Paul Walker in the May democratic primary, where the victor would likely go on to face incumbent Republican James Comer.

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear stopped in Hopkinsville to speak with the numerous candidates, saying the state needs people who are willing to work hard and fight for everyone.

Each candidate, including those running for city council, fiscal court magistrate, constable, county attorney, commonwealth’s attorney, state representative, Christian County Sheriff and circuit court clerk, got a couple of minutes to introduce themselves and explain what they are running for and why.
