Proceedings delayed in Gray case

Proceedings were continued until February 28 in Christian District Court Wednesday morning for former Hopkinsville Police Officer Daniel Gray.

Gray appeared with his attorney Rick Boling, who informed the court that they are still waiting on documents from Kentucky State Police.

Gray is charged with two counts of official misconduct, which is a misdemeanor. A warrant from Kentucky State Police alleges that he gave a woman leniency in exchange for sex. It states that in November of last year after serving a probation violation warrant against a woman, he drove her to the Fairview Inn and had sexual relations with her while she was in custody. He took her to jail after the encounter. Gray gave a statement that he was taking her to the hotel to fetch clothing.

Police say the victim described encounters with Gray in which she understood that she would not be arrested if she engaged in sexual relations with him. Gray resigned from his position in the police department on November 20 before being arrested later in the day.

Detective McKinney writes on the warrant that Gray admitted to two sexual encounters with the woman. The investigation determined there was probable cause that the sexual relationship led to Gray declining to arrest the woman.                                                                                                **
