CCHS Colonel Baseball Player Carter Sholar wins Player of the Week

This week’s Jennie Stuart Orthopedic – Michael Venable State Farm Player of the Week is Carter Sholar.

Carter is a senior at Christian Co. High School and a member of the Colonel baseball team.

So far in 7 games this season he has recorded a .368 batting average with 7 hits (3 doubles), 8 stolen bases, and a home run.

Carter is a utility player for the Colonels but for this first quarter of the season he has spent most of his time playing shortstop.

When it comes to Carter’s start in baseball, he credits his grandfather for sparking the interest.

As far as the off-season, Sholar says he spent time playing travel ball in the southern region but also still spent time working with his Colonel teammates.

When it comes to travel ball, Sholar enjoys having the opportunity to play against tough talent outside the state of Kentucky.

Last season, Carter finished second on the team in home runs (3) and stolen bases (24) and currently leads the team in those categories this season.

Sholar shared his thoughts on how his gaining of extra bases helps his team.

With one homer already, Carter says he also plans to exceed his total from last season.

Another goal he has is one set for the team that they have already accomplished his sophomore year, but fell just short of last season.

Cole Isom, the head coach of the Colonel baseball program, gave his thoughts on Carter as a player.

As mentioned, Carter is one of the best players on the team when it comes to base running. When it comes to stealing bases, Isom says Sholar has what is called the “green light” on the field.

As far as improvement, Isom says there aren’t many holes in his game, but that wants to see Carter take steps mentally this season.

Lastly, when asked what his best part of his game was, Carter said hitting. This is what Coach Isom had to say:

Next up for Carter and the rest of his teammates is a road game against Warren East Friday night followed by two home games tomorrow against Bowling Green (noon) and Union County (5:00 p.m.).
