Todd County Health Dept. ordering Pfizer vaccine for those 12-17

The Todd County Health Department is ordering Pfizer vaccine for young folks who are not eligible for Moderna and they’re asking for any families who are interested to contact them by the end of this week.

Public Health Director Jen Harris says she intends to order as much Pfizer vaccine as they need to meet the community’s need late this week and she hopes to begin administering the doses as soon as next week.

They will also order Pfizer for any adult who prefers that option, but Moderna and Johnson and Johnson doses remain available for anyone 18 or older.

Todd County’s vaccination rate remains in the bottom 10 percent of the state at 26 percent and Harris says that’s particularly concerning with the fast-spreading Delta variant that seems to be putting more young folks in the hospital and seems to produce somewhat different symptoms.

She reminds that the Todd County Health Department continues to provide rapid testing at its facility on West Main Street in Elkton. Harris says while vaccines are not mandatory, she strongly recommends anyone who is eligible to get one and protect themselves and loved ones.
